Inspections - UMSS 240728
General
MSS conducted, on July 28, 2024, a walk through of the upper MSS main building. This is not an inspection. Rather, it is a walk-through by laymen to capture obvious maintenance issues and concerns and to provide a current baseline pending the implementation of the maintenance plan.
The upper MSS Kinder building, though built in the 1960's seems structurally sound. It was designed for open airflow at a time when electricity was mainly for lighting. The main issue now is how to remodel the building to enable air conditioning and heavier and more complex electrical demands.
Observations are summarized below.

| Electrical system is undocumented (no blueprint). Distribution panels were added over the years, now three, with distribution wires in and on the walls or ceilings. The circuits are not documented and it is unclear if dedicated circuitry is available per classroom. | This may require the services of a professional. | Electrial - lighting and fixtures. Switches and outlets need to be replaced and lights need to be standardized. The meter is in the restroom, reachable by students. | An electrician is needed to repair/reconfigure the circuitry, replace outlets and switches, and standardized the lighting. Relocation of eletrical meters and distribution panels to a secure utility room is warranted for student safety. |
| Water/sewage system undocumented (no blueprint). The restroom has been moved to the east of the building, with one toilet remaining in the original location. | Doors. The 21 exterior doors need repair and alignment to the frame and replacement hardware (hinges, doorknobs, and deadbolts). | A carpenter may need to fix the door frames and replace all 5 of the 7 exterior doors and replace or install doorknobs and deadbools. |
| Windows (about 1,600 sqft). A new window design needs to be implemented to convert the existing open block type window to accommodate air conditioning.
